Join us February 9th at the Minnesota Bike Walk Summit on Capitol Hill to get the answers to this question before and asking your legislators to make that investment. Biking and walking are key strategies for addressing our public health, climate, and community sustainability challenges and you’ll hear from experts and leaders in all those areas. The list of speakers includes:
- Dr. Kate Knuth, Ph.D., Sustainability Scholar, Idea Entrepreneur, Climate Citizen. Dr. Knuth will share with us her findings from her report on the climate action plans from communities large and small in Minnesota. All include biking and walking as part of the solution.
- Chair Trista MatasCastillo, Chair, Ramsey County Board of Commissioners. Commissioner MatasCastillo represents Falcon Heights and the northwest quadrant of St. Paul and has been a tireless advocate for many issues. She is an e-bike commuter.
- Patrick Hollister, Active Living Planner, PartnerSHIP 4 Health is a collaboration of community and public health partners in Becker, Clay, Otter Tail and Wilkin counties working to prevent chronic disease through sustainable changes that increase physical activity, healthy eating and reduce tobacco use and exposure. Patrick has been very involved in the Bicycle Friendly Community efforts and the Pedal Fergus Falls BikeMN chapter.
- Erik Noonan, Board Member, We Bike Rochester. Rochester was one of Minnesota’s first communities to receive a Bicycle Friendly ranking and We Bike Rochester (a BikeMN chapter) has been there along the way to empower those efforts through advocacy, education and ridership. Learn how they’ve made the case for bicycling infrastructure and programs and who their partners are.
- Senator Scott Dibble and Representative Frank Hornstein, chairs of the transportation committees. Chairs Dibble and Hornstein support what we want to do, but will not be shy about telling us what they need us to do in order for them to have the support needed to do great things for active transportation.
- Mayor Scott Sherman, City of Winona. Winona is also one of Minnesota’s first Bicycle Friendly Communities and Mayor Sherman has been there as an advocate and for the past few years as mayor. Mayor Sherman is a bike commuter that gets what bicycling, complete streets, and safe routes to school mean to a the success of a college town in Greater Minnesota.
- MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger
- We have also invited Saint Paul’s Mayor Carter and Governor Walz.
