It’s never too late to learn how to ride a bike, sharpen existing skills, or learn some new ones! BikeMN’s Adult Learn to Ride season kicked off with a four-week training in Bloomington, Minnesota, where adults teach the basics of how to ride and pedal if they have never learned, or for whom it’s been a long time. Each Adult Learn to Ride session consists of 90 minutes classes and each session runs for four weeks. BikeMN supplies participants with bikes and helmets during class, and participants can earn a free bicycle, helmet, bike lock, and bike lights upon completion of the course.
The Adult Learn to Ride curriculum starts with and emphasizes learning to balance, followed by learning to pedal. Then, participants progress at their own pace to work on basic bike handling skills and learn how to ride safely in traffic and on the road. Thanks to tools donated by Park Tool, BikeMN educators can teach participants basic bicycle maintenance, as well as best practices before riding like the ABC Quick Check. Every Monday this season, participants can drop by the northeast Minneapolis bike shop, Camden Cycles, for an open shop where they can tune up their bikes and receive assistance from bike mechanics. At the end of each course, participants explore their community at the easy pace of a bicycle with a culminating group ride! Congratulations to this year’s Bloomington Adult Learn to Ride class, we can’t wait to see you riding with confidence on the trails this summer!
