[MINNEAPOLIS, MN] – On Monday, May 25th, George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis. The Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota issued the following statement in response:
“Our hearts are heavy and deeply saddened for George Floyd, his family, and his loved ones. George had his life taken away not far from the BikeMN office. His death was a clear act of racism and violence that happened in our streets at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. Our deepest sympathies go out to him and his loved ones, and those who suffer injustice as a result of an unbalanced power dynamic that perpetuates discrimination. We stand alongside those demanding accountability from the Minneapolis Police Department, elected officials, and our justice system.”
“As advocates, the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota knows we must do more to uplift and center the voices in the fight for truly safe and equitable streets across our state who too often go unheard. We want justice served and changed policies that will truly help create safer streets and public spaces for all. We acknowledge that many of these important issues overlap and intersect. Our communities won’t be the safe, vibrant spaces we dream of and work so hard for until everyone is able to exist in them without threat.”
