Become an Instructor
Train as a Bicycling Instructor to help share valuable knowledge and skills in your community.
Anyone can ride a bike, right? It’s true. Most people can get on and pedal, but many have never been taught to “drive your bike.” At BikeMN, we understand that bicyclists fare best when they act and are treated as drivers of vehicles. BikeMN has worked with partners in Minnesota to apply this nationally recognized principle through a range of bike education programs, including the League of American Bicyclists “Smart Cycling” and MN’s own “Walk! Bike! Fun!“. Learn more about these programs below and how to get involved!
Bike Instructor Training Programs
League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor (LCI)
BikeMN uses the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) nationally accredited bike education program, Smart Cycling. Courses and curricula are taught by certified League Cycling Instructors (LCI).
LCIs have a great deal of flexibility in how they teach Smart Cycling. Whether it’s a lunch-and-learn Bike Basics at your office, or a 9-hour Traffic Skills 101 certification class, BikeMN and our LCI’s have bike education that fits your needs.
Walk! Bike! Fun! Educators
The Walk!Bike!Fun! program puts priority on teachers first. From a modular curriculum and free trainings to support services – including bike fleets delivered to your school –, Walk! Bike! Fun! is made for teachers who want to get their students moving. Join the hundreds of teachers across Minnesota to get involved.Learn More
Walk! Bike! Fun! Ambassadors
The Walk! Bike! Fun! (WBF) Ambassador program supports organized youth education initiatives around walking and biking by engaging enthusiastic adult volunteers. We recognize that valuable teaching often happens in informal settings, and not every adult has received formal teacher training. The guide (and training) help prepare adults to implement programs and activities that reinforce concepts and objectives of the complete WBF curriculum being taught in schools as well as a Safe Routes to School plan being implemented in the community.
