This past week on a snowy Friday afternoon, BikeMN’s angela olson and CJ Lindor presented the Walk! Bike! Fun! (WBF) curriculum training to Minneapolis Public School educators and staff from around the Metro. CJ and angela introduced this group to WBF bicycle safety lessons including helmet fit, ABC Quick Check, and scanning and signaling drills, to principles of bike law and proper road usage. They shared numerous other resources, including WBF technical assistance support which includes the use of adaptive and non-adaptive bicycles in BikeMN’s bike fleet.
The Walk! Bike! Fun! curriculum was written by BikeMN, developed in partnership with MnDOT and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, to be a conveniently accessible resource for teachers and educators interested in bringing the benefits of bike education to youth in their schools and community. BikeMN is working to find creative ways to connect with youth educators outside of the traditional school environment – including summer camps, after-school programs, and community organizations – to the extent the reach of this programming beyond the school year. We invite anyone interested in teaching youth bike safety skills to connect with us and explore ways to engage youth with this fun and important education!
